Photo trip Talavera de la Reina, Spain January 2025

After my previous visit to Jose David of Hides de Calera, which was extremely good, I wanted to photograph the Iberian Lynx this year. Winter is a favorable time for that. In January, the female adult lynx are usually pregnant. The males then already roam again, while the females stay in and guard their territory.

Lynx are extremely shy animals and do not naturally trust humans. Hence the average tourist will never have encountered one. Lynx have been doing very well in recent years, partly due to a government protection program. The numbers have therefore increased significantly.

I was in Castille la Mancha in January, and that year was one of the wettest in recent history. A week of mostly heavy rain. Consequently, in some photos, the drops can be clearly seen. For a photographer, rain is not always a disadvantage. But it does become a disadvantage when the light intensity decreases too much. Then it becomes increasingly difficult to capture action shots. Unfortunately, this was also the case with the Lynx. But despite that I was still able to capture some great images. And also some birds of prey.

So another intense week and an amazingly beautiful experience!
